ANA 2023 ELECTIONS : AKANBI CALLS FOR UNITY

ANA 2023 ELECTIONS : AKANBI CALLS FOR UNITY
When the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) celebrated its fortieth anniversary, the night was filled with joy and harmony, echoing melodies of celebration. The members collectively rejoiced over the achievements of ANA, fulfilling many dreams of its founding members.
However, not all was rosy. Some felt marginalized during the celebrations and subsequently sought legal action against the executive members.
It's intriguing that individuals who once opposed this litigious faction in ANA for ethical reasons are now allying with them, even going so far as to challenge the revered founding members.
One of those founding fathers, our esteemed Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, responded in a measured tone, indicating that after considerable consultations, he felt it best to recuse himself. He eloquently expressed: "After engaging in fact-finding and several discussions with both past and present ANA officials, it's clear that a genuine intervention demands unwavering dedication. Given my current commitments abroad, I'm unable to offer such dedication at this crucial juncture. Regrettably, I must step back, trusting that the creative spirit will ultimately prevail."
It was therefore shocking to see a particular individual, supposedly of high standing, misconstrue the words of the Nobel laureate—a letter that is clear and straightforward.
Furthermore, this individual seems to be supported by a group aiming to gain an upper hand in the upcoming 2023 elections. While they openly campaign for votes, behind the scenes, they covertly call for the cancellation of the convention and dissolution of the current executives, despite acknowledging their achievements. Just a few months away from the end of the executive's term, these individuals threaten legal action to halt the 2023 convention, echoing past endeavors to thwart ANA's fortieth celebrations.
It appears the current constitution is insignificant to them, which is indeed lamentable. Their actions hint at desperation, allying with former adversaries to sow discord.
Light cannot be obscured. If there's no wrongdoing they seek to cover up, then why such desperation and call for chaos?
I earnestly hope that all members will reflect, reason, and seek a harmonious resolution. We, as a community of creative writers, should stand united, not divided!
