Davido's Portrayal of Muslims in Logos Music  Video- Arrant Insensitivity. by Sheriff Olanrewaju 

        The newly released single titled 'Jaye Lọ' by one Logos Olori under Davido's record label, which left many Muslims palpably appalled and disappointed, is nothing more than lack of creativity, borne out of insensitive desperation towards gaining viewers' attention, and an insatiate appetite for more profit.

        Doing everything towards gaining followership can be so tempting; and it is a common practise amongst artistes and music producers to strive towards building the biggest fan base; except that such ephemeral ambition should not be pursued with a desecration of a place so sacred as the Muslims' place of worship. For one would expect that Davido and his crew, too, would be well aware of the sanctity of the mosque as a place solely built for the  worship of Allah.

          The Davido backed video, superficially,  in the view of nominal Muslims might be considered as captivating or even as a dissemination of Islamic tradition, as it tends to present worshippers donning white garments while observing solat at the frontage of a mosque. Nevertheless, the music video will have a lasting effect of burlesquing Nigerian Muslims as  a set of people who violate the sanctity of the mosque, and as uninformed people whose understanding of the religion is alien to the pristine teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

        Whether you like it or not, the wishy-washy video would settle in the subconscious of viewers as a subtle, stereotypical depiction of the Nigerian Muslims as portrayed in the video.

        Notwithstanding, we need no cleric to talk about the commitment of the Nigerian Muslims even before this disparaging video emerges, but the truth is that the video, due to Davido's influence, stands a chance to go viral with a potential to dent the image of the Muslims here, while negatively pigeon-holing the faithful as music lovers.

         It is therefore easy to foresee how the Nigerian video censors board would get dragged by conscientious critics beyond the shores of the country with  Facebook scoffs and Twitter taunts which would be directed at them - all because of Davido's insensitive video which streamed undetected on their censorship radar.

         Unfortunately,  notable Muslim bloggers, who should call the likes of Davido to order, are busy taking a dig at each other at every chance they get online. Even our decorated 'muftis' and imams are in the dark about the loaded message in the said video.

          As earlier stated, it is horrifying to discover that some Muslim youths seem elated about the portrayal of the mosque, the minaret, and the worshippers in the video, thus confirming the weakness of the Nigerian Muslims that the producer seeks to project - that ours is indeed an inactive community.
